Wrendale’s date with king

Royal rendezvous as publisher also celebrates B Corp certification

It’s been a busy time for Wrendale Designs with head of sales Lisa Marcuccio off to meet the king and the business celebrating becoming a certified B Corporation.

Lisa’s royal rendezvous was down to the greeting card, gift and homeware business earning a King’s Award For Enterprise, the UK’s most prestigious business recognition.

And just a few days ago she headed off to Windsor Castle for a reception hosted by King Charles III for companies recognised in the May announcement, the second time Wrendale’s co-owners Hannah and Jack Dale have managed the achievement, having previously received a Queen’s Award in 2019.

And that was followed by the B Corp certification earlier this month, with Hannah releasing a video which can be seen below, explaining what it means to her and Wrendale Designs.

“This is a huge milestone for our company,” she said, “and it demonstrates our ongoing commitment to ensuring that our business positively impacts our customers, our community, our colleagues and the planet.”

Joining a growing group of companies reinventing business by pursuing purpose as well as profit, B Lab, the not-for-profit behind the B Corp movement, has certified Wrendale as having met rigorous social and environmental standards which represent its commitment to goals outside of shareholder profit.

The certification addresses the entirety of a company’s operations, covering five key impact areas of governance, workers, community, environment and customers, in rigorous process where applicants must provide evidence of socially and environmentally-responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency, and legally embed their commitment to purpose beyond profit in their company articles.

Chris Turner, executive director of B Lab UK, added: ““Being able to welcome Wrendale Designs to the B Corp community is hugely exciting. Their commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and really help spread the idea that we can redefine success in business to be as much about people and planet as it is about profit.

“This is a movement of companies who are committed to changing how business operates and believe business really can be a force for good. We know Wrendale Designs is going to be a fantastic addition to the community and will continue driving the conversation forward.

“Welcoming Wrendale Designs is an exciting moment because they have an opportunity to lead the way within the gifting industry.”
