Annie and Tim Gould, owners of Objectables in Folkestone, Kent, reveal the hot sellers in their small shop which is located in a regenerated seaside town, with a customer base of tourists and locals.
This week sees Tim and Annie wearing ‘two hats’ at PG Live – as a card publisher exhibiting at the show as well as retail buyers for their shop.
Humour: Across The Board from Sarah Ray.
“We really love Sarah’s illustrations, which are sweet and quirky but not saccharine.”
Humour: KMK from KissMeKwik
“We’ve just started offering KMK but it’s very popular and flying off the shelves.”
Humour: Gin & Frolics from Rosie Made A Thing
“The designs are very clever and Rosie hits that sweet spot where her funny observations on everyday life appeal to a wide age group of card buyers.”
Humour: Evil Cats from Tess Cards
“The designs show vintage cat images with the punchline highlighting the evil of felines, such as ‘Get well soon… or this cat will eat your corpse’”.
Humour: Corrina Rothwell
“Now licensed on cards to Really Good, we like her and her artwork.”
General: Veronica Dearly
“Fun and funny word cards that are a little bit different. We particularly like her feminist designs.”
Art: Across The Board from Art House Meath
“We love the company’s stuff and what it does for charity. Its ‘Joanna Lumley’ card just sells out!”
Contemporary: General from Dicky Bird
“Simple but strong graphics with a funny sense to the designs, so they fit in with what we offer, which is mainly humour.”
Children’s: General from Objectables
“Our own range of rude kids’ cards have been smashing it in the shop! Although not all, there are a lot of poo and bum words and when kids see them they just lose it with laughter.”
