Over the next couple of months lots of cardies will be lacing up their walking boots and cycling shoes and taking on some incredible challenges all in the name of charity. PGBuzz catches up with some of the events taking place.
Cherry Orchard’s co-founder and owner, Jackie Collins, and director of creativity, Beverley Fisher, will be tackling the Three Peaks Challenge on 28 July with 50 other trekkers; aiming to summit Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scafell Pike (England) and Snowdon (Wales) all within a weekend. They are raising money for WellChild’s children’s charity.
“We are continuing to notch up training walks on our own and joining up together to walk the Malverns to keep up the level of training we need to give the 3 peaks challenge our best shot. One of our last sessions will be an eight hour walk, taking in four peaks in the Brecon Beacons,” says Jackie. “Fundraising for WellChild helps the charity to provide essential practical and emotional support for seriously ill children, young people and those who care for them across the UK to ensure they receive the best possible quality of care.”

Midlands card agent, Ian Bradley (who held his ‘wedding reception’ at PG Live with his bride Lorraine, founder of Rush Design) is getting ready to undertake an epic challenge in the Lake District this month too – summiting 10 mountains in just 10 hours! He will be joined by his new wife Lorraine and his brother and his girlfriend.
“I wanted to do something special this year, with it being my 50th birthday, and I felt this was the time to do a real walking challenge,” says Ian. “It is 10 ascents and descents in just 10 hours walking 16.1 miles in total. We will be definitely enjoying a beer or two afterwards!”
Ian and the team are raising money for the MS Society and you can make a donation at his Just Giving page.
On July 1 almost 200 riders will leave Düsseldorf for the Grande Depart of the 104th Tour De France. Two weeks later a small team of four from Katie Phythian Design will set off from the same start line and head to Paris themselves. Although a slightly more direct route, covering a mere 600km, they will be completely unsupported. The four person team will cycle through Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium and France over nine days. They are taking up this incredible challenge in support of a fantastic Manchester charity called Wood Street Mission.
“As a new business we were keen to start our journey in support of a charity we are passionate about” said art director Katie Phythian. “Wood Street fits the bill perfectly for us on so many levels. The work they do is not only local but is clearly visible too.”

Over 30 industry colleagues are taking part in the Cardgains Seaside Shuffle – a 25 mile walk from Whitby to Scarborough on 22 June. This year the event is raising money for Guide Dogs UK – the Cardgains charity for 2017. Cardgains is sponsoring a puppy called Cyril (named after Cardgains’ mascot), a black Labrador who was born in February. He has now entered his 6-8 week initial training and has been placed with puppy walkers in Rotherham.
“We have quite a few people doing the Seaside Shuffle who’ve undertaken our previous walks, so we must be doing something right,” says Penny Shaw, marketing director of Cardgains. “I’m sure they would all recommend it and say how much fun they had! Training is always hard, luckily we’ve had some great weather recently so I hope everyone has found some time to get their walking boots on.”
