Verona trip to be won in Fedrigoni’s birthday competition at PG Live

Bella bella…paper company celebrates 30 years in UK with new greeting card swatch book

Fedrigoni is celebrating three decades of its British operation with a fabulous PG Live competition on the company’s stand where visitors can also check out the paper specialist’s new confetti-themed greeting card swatch book.

With the two-day show kicking off tomorrow, Tuesday 7 June, at London’s Business Design Centre, anyone visiting the company’s stand right by the lunch hall can take part in its 30-year celebrations with a chance to win a two-night trip to the historic and beautiful Italian town of Verona, the home of Fedrigoni Paper, which was founded in 1888.

Fedrigoni’s commercial manager Ian Braithwaite said: “To enter, please visit us at PG Live and post a birthday card listing the names of three famous people you would love to attend your birthday party.”

The lucky winner, drawn at random, will receive the prize of two nights’ luxury hotel accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis in a double or twin room; return flights to Italy for two people; and transfers between the airport and hotel.

Also at PG Live, Fedrigoni will be showing off its 16-example All The Best booklet, demonstrating how these materials respond to different processes.

“It’s particularly useful to see how litho inks sit on coated, uncoated and those in-between lightly-coated stucco surfaces,” Ian told PG Buzz. “We wanted to demonstrate the materials in use, in reference to the different types of design used for greeting cards, including black and white photography, text, and illustrations.”

He added that confetti provided the ideal subject for a unifying set of printed images within the greeting card swatch book. A paper product itself, confetti is a universal metaphor for celebration that is understood by all and it also has useful abstract qualities being essentially a random scattering of 10mm circles. These simple forms extend the pared-back graphic language of the Fedrigoni promotional books that London-based agency Graphic Though Facility developed, beginning with Paper Box in 2019.

Confetti provides plenty of plasticity to demonstrate the application of process. On coated and stucco boards Fedrigoni has tended to use photographic images, such as shooting confetti made from an eclectic variety of sources including Italian newspapers, Japanese manga and even old company swatches. The images on the uncoated papers are simpler, using line-art to carry clean Pantone spot colours.

And the company has even included some real confetti made from its Sirio Color paper range, trapped between the slipcase and its shrink wrap.

With the increasing demand from card publishers for more environmentally-friendly grades, Fedrigoni is offering the opportunity to carbon balance the material used.

And it has recently made several additions, including Old Mill Stucco Classic 100% Recycled and Symbol Card Eco 100% recycled one-side coated board, to its portfolio of relevant products, and the swatch has been designed so future additions can be incorporated within it.

With over 3,000 different papers, Fedrigoni produces papers, boards and self-adhesives – Stucco is a group of the company’s products with a special light coating that gives the printed results of a coated board, on stock which has the natural look and feel of an uncoated.

Thanks to a thin horizontal jet of air angled from a pressurised slot, it’s possible to apply the same quantity of coating across, across both smooth and textured or embossed papers, since the air knife follows the surface contours of the paper.
