Winning trio of designs will be sold through Tesco raising funds for Children With Cancer UK
UK Greetings is aiding Tesco and The Sun newspaper on their mission to raise money for Children With Cancer UK through a special children’s Christmas cards competition.
Youngsters across the UK are being asked to draw or paint a special picture of their favourite festive image for The Sun On Sunday’s Xmas Cards For Kids Campaign – but they need to hurry as the contest only runs through to Saturday, 27 August.
After the closing date this coming weekend, judges including Tesco’s greeting card assistant buyer Stephanie Burrows, entrepreneur Baroness Karren Brady, and children’s author Liz Pichon will pick their favourite three for UKG to turn into 18,000 Christmas cards.
The cards will be sold through Tesco stores to raise money for the charity which funds vital research into childhood cancers and help buy gifts for youngsters spending their festive season in hospital.
Demi Watson, UKG strategic account director, said: “UK Greetings couldn’t be more honoured to be involved in such a brilliant and positive initiative. This donation will help so many children with cancer this Christmas.”
To demonstrate the importance of the charity’s work, The Sun is featuring youngsters who spend lengthy periods in hospital such as Lily-May Betts, who was just one when diagnosed with a rare brain tumour and has undergone four years of gruelling treatment before being given the all-clear in February this year.
Lily-May’s dad Stephen said: “This campaign is so important – to raise awareness, help to fund vital research for childhood cancers and help buy presents for kids in hospital with cancer this year. It’s hell to be in hospital at Christmas because you’re so aware it’s not the way things should be.
“Please get drawing and encourage your kids to enter – you don’t know the difference you might make to a family like ours.”
Now five, Lily-May is planning to draw a Christmas-themed unicorn and puppy as her own entry for the competition.
All entries need to be emailed to sundayfeatures@the-sun.co.uk by Saturday, 27 August. Include a photo of the child’s drawing, along with their age, address, and a phone number, plus a few words about why they entered. Keep the original design, which must be on A4, A5 or A6 paper, in case it’s a winner so will need to be scanned for use. Only under 18s may enter, and terms and conditions apply.
Oonagh Turnbull, Tesco’s head of health campaigns, said: “We are delighted to be teaming up with Children With Cancer UK and The Sun On Sunday to raise vital funds that will save lives.”
