Black History Month sees new card range hit 100 stores as Streetgreets collab unveiled
UK Greetings has been working with Sainsbury’s to develop a card range celebrating diverse designers for Black History Month.
The display is currently in 100 selected Sainsbury’s stores across the UK and features cards from black-owned brands and artists, marking the annual observance which is celebrated throughout October in the UK, with founder Akyaaba Addai-Sebo picking the month to inspire young people at the start of the academic year.
“It was very important to both Sainsbury’s and UK Greetings that the display included cards from existing ranges where we celebrate diverse culture all year round,” said Zoe Callister, Sainsbury’s customer and product manager at UKG, sharing her views on LinkedIn.
The choice of cards includes a selection of in-house designs from AfroTouch and Eastern Print Studio, which UKG has forged relationships with as part of its Kindred offer, plus those from Kendra Dandy’s Bouffants & Broken Hearts brand which UKG produces under licence. These are joined in the display by designs from other publishers which UKG brokers into Sainsbury’s. Zoe added that she’s “so proud” of her team for its work on the range.
UKG has also launched its collaboration with Streetgreets, from sisters Siobhan Wauchope and Naomi Nicholas, who established the online card and gift brand in 2017 to champion Black-British and popular culture, and were among the winners of the GCA x Sainsbury’s Black History Month competition last year.
Zoe said: “We’re looking forward to developing this exciting collaboration within the main range over the coming months. Our commitment is to continue to drive naturally-inclusive all-year-round product into each and every one of our card activities.”
