UK Greetings boosts pupils’ enterprise

Local community visit sees school’s Eid card designs raise funds for charity

Engaging with the local community is very important at UK Greetings, and a recent visit to a local girls’ school saw some great creativity ending up with bespoke cards for the pupils to sell.

The publisher was invited to support the Enterprise Day at Madni Girls’ Academy in its home town of Dewsbury, and UKG hr manager Laura Roderick told PG Buzz: “We’re always keen to engage our local community so planned a fun and enterprising activity for the pupils to take part in.

“We had groups of Year 6 and 8 students putting their creativity to the test to design some beautiful cards in celebration of Eid. The designs were then judged by our fabulous judging panel of two Madni Academy teachers and our own Emma Harrison and Razina Laher, as well as me.”

Following a tough decision, the winning design was selected and the team who created it were given a tour around UKG’s nearby production facility, while their card design was being brought to life, using the publisher’s new digital press.

The newly-printed greeting cards were then sold to the pupils’ parents, with all proceeds being donated to Madni’s chosen charity, Benefit Mankind, a UK-based organisation that works to improve lives, alleviate poverty, transform and empower communities.

As Laura added: “We’re very proud to share that proceeds from the card sales were used to help orphaned children in Kenya celebrate Eid by providing them with gifts.

“It was highly rewarding to collaborate with Madni Girls Academy on their Enterprise Day and we’re so excited to continue building our relationship throughout the year.”
