Treasure hunters seek out £8,000

The Light Fund’s coffers boosted by summer fun as 5-3-1 Peaks Challenge revealed for 2025

Adding to the £6,000 raised at The Retas retail awards through the raffle, chasing treasure around the capital has seen £8,000 raised for industry charity The Light Fund – and the next big challenge has also been announced.

Over 270 folk from across the greeting card, licensing and related industries took to the streets around London’s Embankment and Westminster on Wednesday, 17 July, for the popular annual summer treasure hunt.

Following the clues and performing several tasks along the way – such as taking a selfie outside a theatre and by Nelson’s Column – saw the Consultants team take the top prize with a perfect score of 50 points on arrival at the Tattershall Castle boat on the Thames, while Rainbow Designs came second with 46, and 44 points put Pokémon in third place.

At the other end of the table Funko had 26 points, and joint second to last were Danilo, Poetic Brands and Character.com, all with 28 points – all the pictures from the hunt can be seen here.

“The support from across the industry was amazing, with over 270 people attending,” Ashley Holman, md at ToyTopic and The Light Fund committee member, said, “meaning we raised over £8,000 for charity. No one got lost in any of the pubs and, despite some tricky questions, everyone got respectable scores. Special thanks to our sponsors too.”

While the next event to boost the charity’s total of £2.5million, which has been used to help men, women and children across the world over the past 20 years, is the Southern Quiz Night on 28 November – tickets available here – plans are already afoot for a 2025 biggie in the shape of the 5-3-1 Peaks Challenge.

Set to knock the socks off the famous 3 Peaks Challenge of tackling the UK’s trio of highest peaks – Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis – the organisers have added Slieve Donard in Northern Ireland and Ireland’s highest mountain of Carrauntoohil.

All five peaks cover 40miles (64km) and over 5,300metres of ascent with the aim of finishing within 72 hours, while the triple challenge is 24 hours and 26miles (42km) while climbing 3,064m, or there’s the chance to take on a single peak, the 1,085m Yr Wyddfa.

Ashley said: “The fundraiser is a bold challenge to have mass participation climbing Yr Wyddfa, approximately 70 people taking on the 3 Peaks Challenge and, ideally, a minimum of 24 people taking on the gruelling 5 Peaks Challenge.”

The challenge will be attempted over 24-28 September, 2025, with the well-established family-run business Adventurous Ewe and for more details, and to express your interest in taking part, contact

For further details on the challenge – and to express your interest in taking part – contact Ashley Holman or Mark Kingston. Places must be confirmed by 31 August, 2024.
