Greeting card and gift company, The Little Dog Laughed always stands out from the crowd with its own ways of doing things and is well loved for it. So, it should come as little surprise that the siblings who own the Derby-based business – Anna Danielle, Gavin and Nathan Smith – entered the film business to lift the spirits of their retail customers and fanfare its latest launches.
“We love exhibiting at trade shows, seeing our customers and showcasing our new products, but when all the trade shows were cancelled, we knew we had to do something instead that would bring the physical to the digital,” explains Gavin Smith, managing director of the company.
Instead of doing a ‘straight’ product launch video, the talented trio opted to recreate the experience of trade shows, taking a tongue-in-cheek approach with its ‘Our in-house Autumn Fair’ movie. The peppy film highlights some of the trade show ‘classic elements’, from the Hendersons watch adverts on the toilet doors at the NEC to the inevitable long queues for coffees, from the sweet bowl swoop from uninterested passers-by to the ‘last day’ comedown.
“While we all love trade shows, we don’t love all aspects of trade shows, our little film makes light of some of the latter,” adds Gavin. “This really was just a bit of fun really, but we did have a good laugh making it – and interestingly, having hosted it on LinkedIn, we have been contacted by some retail buyers who are new to us, which is great.”

Making the film gave The Little Dog Laughed team a taster for the movie business and they are now embarking on some ‘sequels’ that will be screened on the company’s YouTube channel shortly. The plotlines have yet to be unveiled!
