In something of a step-change in the approach to its own brand everyday greeting cards, Tesco has introduced a range of charity cards in support of three health charities – Cancer Research UK, British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK.
The rear of all the cards details how the supermarket will donate £100,000 to the three charities, the logos of which feature atop the Tesco pledge, ‘Little helps for healthier living’.
The bespoke card collection also has high eco-credentials as the cards are sold ‘naked’, feature no glitter and are printed in the UK on board that is either 100% or 50% recyclable.
“We wanted to create something with true values at its core and are really proud of our new own brand range,” Sara Gibson, Tesco’s buying manager of cards and giftwrap told PG Buzz.
The new greeting card selection is being rolled out to all of Tesco’s main stores as a designated display. All the same size and printed on textured board, the cards retail between £1.00 and £2.00.
Sara describes the card mix as “highly sendable” with a greater focus on open sends but some captioned designs are also included in the line-up. “The designs are contemporary, but not niche, covering relevant themes including female empowerment and positive mental thinking.”
This new everyday collection follows on from Tesco’s approach to its Mother’s Day 2019 own brand selection which not only saw the supermarket donate £20,000 to Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life initiative, but also detailed the stories of some Tesco employees whose lives have been touched by cancer on the rear of the cards.

This year Tesco celebrates an 18 years partnership with Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life. In that time, Tesco colleagues and customers have raised more than £45 million for Cancer Research UK.
