Paper Mirchi designs handmade keepsake for attendees – get your hands on yours now!
Scroll up! Scroll up! There’s a unique experience for attendees at this year’s Henries awards as the official invitation is a fantastic boxed scroll keepsake befitting the Ancient Rome theme.
Designed and kindly sponsored by Rani Moochhala, founder of Paper Mirchi, the tree-free paper has been handmade in India using the same techniques of pulped cotton rags and textile scraps as for her greeting card and giftwrap products, though the recent monsoon rather delayed the drying time of the beautiful paper.
To complement the tea-stained deckle edge cotton paper all illustrations are by artist Emma Lawrence, and have been skilfully screen-printed by artisans in India.
“We wanted to create something that resonates with the Roman theme,” Rani said, “and the handmade scroll, particularly with the tea-stained paper gives it that old vintage look.
“Emma has cleverly used elements from the Roman era such as pillars, mosaic, coins, etc, while also bringing out a party vibe with drawings of musical instruments, and goblets of wine, all in her unique style – we’re extremely pleased with the final outcome!”
The scroll, with its wooden roller, is encased in a gorgeous handmade satin-lined green box with classic gold writing, which can be seen in all its glory in the video below and will be arriving through the post to all ticketholders from the start of September.
To get your hands on one of these limited-edition pieces, which take inspiration from the time of emperors such as Julius Caesar and the Roman legionnaires responsible for Hadrian’s Wall, many roads across Britannia after the conquest in 43AD, and villas such as Verulamium – with a touch of cod Latin thrown in! – all you have to do is secure a ticket to attend the fabulous Henries party.
Taking place on Thursday, October 3, in the Nine Kings Suite at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel, there’s a cocktail reception at 6.45pm, dinner and the awards ceremony from 7.20pm, then from 11pm it’s time to schmooze and dance the night away in your toga or gladiator’s kilt and sandals – or black tie and posh frock, if you prefer.
All winners of The Henries 2024 will be announced at what is the greeting card industry’s big night from the list of finalists and Best Service To The Independent Retailer shortlist announced just a few days ago.
