Generous sponsors pressed under the iron as greetings trio take on Sunday’s London Marathon
Sunday sees this year’s London Marathon so get cheering at the TV coverage and see if you can spot anyone from the greetings industry – especially Rachel Church, Paul Roberts and Mark Janson-Smith.
And six helpful companies have joined in the fun by agreeing to help Rachel Ellen Designs’ commercial director Paul by going under the iron.
The extreme ironing nut is known for his mad challenges including Brecon Ultra Marathon, the World Bog Snorkelling Championships and the infamous six-day Marathon Des Sables across the Sahara Desert, and should stand out during the big event in the capital on Sunday, 2 October, as he’ll be wheeling his trusty ironing board along the 26.2-mile route pressing a t-shirt covered in the logos of generous sponsors Emma Ball Ltd, The Little Dog Laughed, Easy Logistics, The Giftware Association, Enveco, and Rachel Ellen Designs.
For Paul’s boss and company co-founder Rachel Church this will be her first marathon, having taken up running just four years ago, and only deciding to make the leap from 10k and half-marathons following her father’s pancreatic cancer diagnosis in August 2021.
Co-owner of London retail group Postmark, Mark is also a newbie runner, admitting he used to get out of breath running for a bus so did the Couch To 5k programme with his son last year but didn’t properly take up the sport until January.
Both Paul and Rachel are raising money for Pancreatic Cancer UK, which works towards better awareness, and early diagnosis of the condition that has the highest mortality rate of all the major cancers, as well as funding work on more effective treatments.
Meanwhile, Mark is supporting leading children’s hospice charity Shooting Stars, which provides nursing, practical, emotional and medical care for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families across Surrey and London from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement.
All three runners would be grateful for any support so click on their names to follow the link to their fund-raising pages.
If you’re in London for the Marathon, cheer on the trio – and if anyone else from the industry is taking part please do let PG Buzz know by emailing jakkib@max-publishing.co.uk, we’d love to see any pictures from the day!
