Willsow’s plantable poppy card campaign is thoughtful customer gift
Poppies are the symbol of Remembrance Day so award-winning greeting card and book publisher Willsow has come up with the very thoughtful Plant, Grow, Remember customer gift.
For every order placed on its website until 11 November, formerly known as Armistice Day, a poppy seed card will be sent with the goods so customers can grow their own flowers for remembrance next year.
“The campaign is titled Plant, Grow, Remember,” Willsow founder Tom Willday told PG Buzz, “and is a sustainable and thoughtful way to remember the fallen this year. The cards are embedded with lots of poppy seeds so can be planted to grow real flowers.”
Willsow is known for its plantable children’s books which Tom developed after finding out about seed paper, and now produces through the Leicester-based family printing business of which he’s the fourth generation to manage the company.
Having won three trophies at the Gift Of The Year Awards 2022 – Children’s Educational, Ethical & Sustainable, and Judges’ Choice – Tom and business partner James have expanded their offer into greeting cards using three types of eco-friendly board, made from 50% grass clippings, elephant poo and recycled paper, and seed paper.
All their books are printed on post-consumer waste, recycled paper without the use of bleach or chemicals, and all off-cuts are recycled with the seed paper donated to local charities for children to plant, and the inner page off-cuts are recycled to become a part of another story. Vegetable-based inks are used, and the printing machines in their family printing press that has been in operation for 78 years, are powered by 100% renewable energy.
