Teen postie channels kids’ favourite to bring cheer on his rounds
Postman Pat is alive and kicking in the shape of teen postie Jack Leslie who delivers the mail dressed as the beloved kids’ favourite.
With his vintage Royal Mail uniform, the 19-year-old’s cheeky grin and specs makes him a dead ringer for the character – although he doesn’t have black and white cat Jess to accompany him on his rounds in the coastal town of Arbroath.
Since he started delivering the mail last year, young Jack has gone old school, wearing a suit, shirt and tie instead of the modern red and black sweatshirts and jackets along with a vintage postie’s cap he found at his depot.
And he’s completed the look with a classic 1950s Royal Mail black greatcoat with red piping that he found on eBay for £60, so looks much like Postman Pat Clifton doing his rounds and helping out friends and customers like postmistress Mrs Goggins, train driver Ajay Bains, Peter Fogg the farmer and the elderly Granny Dryden.
Jack told the Scottish Sun newspaper: “I like to be dressed well for my customers, and I’ve only had positive reactions, especially from older customers.
‘It’s nice to see people smile. They’re looking forward to seeing you on their doorsteps – it’s good to be bringing some happiness at this time of year.”
Royal’s Mail’s rule require posties to be dressed in uniform so the outfit fits the bill as it’s simply an older version, with Jack happy that the wool coat keeps him toasty in the braw Scottish winter weather.
