Check out the snaps in this round-up of the big 2024 trade show

Two days of fun, laughter, catching up with greeting card industry pals and, of course, doing business are over for another year, with positive vibes coming from the many who attended and exhibited at PG Live 2024.

With a record 220 exhibitors and an incredible range of buyers, retailers, and distributors through the doors – including Barkers, Blue Diamond Garden Centres, British Museum, Cardfactory, Cards Galore, Cardzone, Clintons, Elphicks, Fenwick, Fortnum & Mason, Funky Pigeon. Harrods, House of Cards, Huttons, Jarrolds, John Lewis, Kew, Lark, Longacres, Oliver Bonas, Marks & Spencer, Moonpig, Morleys, Morrisons, National Trust, Notcutts, Paper Tiger, Postmark, RHS, Sainsbury’s, Scribbler, The Stock Shop, Temptations, Tesco, Thortful, TJX, TK Maxx, Utility, Waterstones and WHSmith – the 16th edition of the UK’s only specialist trade show for greeting cards proved to be one of the best yet.

There are loads of pictures showing what went on, and they can be downloaded for free here – here PG Buzz looks back on just a few of the snapshots from the Business Design Centre over Tuesday and Wednesday, 4-5 June.

Above: Deals were being done throughout the show with Hugs & Kisses’ Caroline Ranwell so keen she ran from the opening photo shot on the stairs to order with Lorraine Bradley at Rush Design before the doors had officially opened, and turned it into a Sunshine ticket order, then Austin & Co’s Sean Austin snuck in his Sunshine ticket order at Stoats & Weasels just as the tannoy sounded to close the event.

Above: Cards appeal to young and old. At 91, Elizabeth Walsh has been in greetings retail a long time at Good Wishes, and spent her Cardgains voucher with Carl Pledger at Nigel Quiney, while the show’s youngest visitor was little Ruby born on 1 May to Sanne and Josh at Crystal Palace store Ivy And The Wolf – mum Sanne may be on maternity leave but just couldn’t miss out on PG Live!

Above: “It’s fantastic! There’s a lovely vibe and we’ve already made a couple of orders. We walked the show in the morning and will spend in the afternoon. We’ve taken on a brand-new range for children, Pigment’s new range, and Woodmansterne has some fantastic additions to their ranges. It’s a fantastic show because we haven’t got to waste time on other things, we just concentrate on cards. At most shows people are sort of miserable, here people are always happy and have more time to talk and ask questions, it’s great. We do sell gifts as well but they take some time to pick up, examine, etc, and we find at other shows we don’t go in to the card hall.” Deb and Paul Crane, Paperweight, Cardiff

Above: “It’s my first time here, I’ve never been before and Sally [Matson] said I’d have a great time and see lots of friends – and I have! I’ve spent our Golden Ticket with Penguin Ink. It’s great just saying hi to everybody, seeing their new ranges and making new friends. Karen West (left), store manager, Red Card, Petworth “It’s lovely as always. I’ve been here many times and it’s always one of my favourite show, there’s always something new to see. I haven’t spent my golden ticket yet but I do have a couple of people in mind.” Hazel Small, RHS Wisley

Above: “It’s amazing. We’re looking at juvenile and football, and we’ve just extended the shop so have a new room and we’re going to be buying more as we’ve doubled our male card range and our humour cards – but we have to be careful as many customers wouldn’t like some of the cards there are! We have a little section of naughty cards hidden away that people can ask to see, I need a naughty box!” Kayleigh & Sinan Hisim, Milford Cards & Gifts

Above: “I arrived at lunchtime and have placed a few orders already. I went on to Cath Tate Cards and saw Cath there herself, which was great. I’ve just picked up these cards from a lady who’s looking after the stand for her daughter, Chloe Cassidy on Angel Fine Arts, who can’t come because she’s at school! She’s only 16 so coming down after school. I’ve ordered from Cath Tate, it’s a must because her cards just disappear and it’s so nice to see her ranges all out at once. Laura Darrington too, and Stephanie Davies is unbelievable. She has a card that’s so northern when you read it out, and we had such a chuckle. I got a picture of her in front over her card so I can show it to customers, they love to hear about the artists. Five Dollar Shake because I get through their wedding cards like nobody’s business, and Dean Morris of course. Sharon King-Chai, she has such a good vibe I’m not surprised to hear she’s an author too, and AfroTouch Design because they’re really strong, and Redback I ordered, and Raspberry Blossom who I showed a picture of their new spinner in the shop. Paper Salad as I always look forward to their stand and they sell very well. And I’ve ordered from Brilliantly Brave too!” Mary Singleton-Jones, Panda Cards, St Albans

Above: “It’s always a really good show, lots to choose and lots of new which is always nice. It’s always nice to touch base with everyone after the hard slog of Christmas and the build-up at the beginning of the year. We come every year and we always spend out tickets with someone new – we’ve been gifted something so support someone who is trying to make it. So ours has gone to the Sunshine Bindery, and we’ve also ordered with Stormy Knight, Ricicle Cards and Mifkins so far. We’ll probably place six orders here and we’re never disappointed.” Adam, Harriet and Meg De Wolff, The Indigo Tree
