Galina Pagliaro, the granddaughter of the famous Russian fairytale illustrator, Yuri Vasnetov will make her debut at PG Live with her company Kapelki Art this year in the Springboard section. She speaks about her early life spending time with her grandfather and her dream to keep his work alive through her greeting cards.

Life Before Cards: “Born in beautiful Saint Petersburg, I spent my early working life as an English teacher, later also in the Czech Republic. Five years ago my life changed, when becoming a full-time mum and focusing on my naughty, but gorgeous kids.”

I remember my first Christmas in England, being so impressed with the array of greeting cards at my in-law’s that I fell in love with the British tradition of sending greeting cards. A long-held dream to share my family’s artistic heritage with the world first took wing.”

Design Development: “Like so many Russian children, I grew up immersed in the fairytale world created by Yuri Vasnetov (1900-1973), my grandfather! In his studio and surrounded by his paintings, I would while away the hours listening to my grandmother reading his letters and telling her stories. Now, creating cards by focusing on my favourite details has been amazing in itself, but seeing these unusual designs becoming so popular among newcomers to Vasnetsov’s art is incredible.”

PG Live Opportunities: “My dream is to introduce my grandfather’s art to the world through the tradition of sending greeting cards. I’m looking forward to meeting more retailers, learning more about the industry and bringing Kapelki Art cards to more stockists so that they can be found by future fans.”
