Nicola’s cute field mouse tops creatives’ group Thinking Of You Week competition
A sweet little field mouse has scampered its way to top spot in the Creative Card Collective’s Thinking Of You Week competition.
Illustrator and designer Nicola Allen’s artwork was picked by judge Liz Ellis, studio manager at Abacus Cards, as the winner in the contest run by the online membership group for creatives working in the greeting card industry.
Liz said Nicola’s lovely field mouse design “is soft and appealing, the character is delightful and very sweet, he’s pensive, engaging and contemplative so perfect for the caption. The palette is calming and reflective of the occasion, the mustard gives a lovely pop of colour”.
Based in Bexhill-On-Sea, where she runs Peony Rose Illustration working for publishers including Hallmark, Marks & Spencer, The Art Group, UK Greetings, Paper Rose, and Abacus, Nicola wins 24 greeting cards of her winning design, printed by the group’s creative collaborators The Imaging Centre.
Creative Card Collective co-founder Bev Cunningham explained: “I love Nicola’s winning entry, such a beautiful design and worthy winner. Many thanks to Liz for judging the competition – not any easy task with so many wonderful entries.
“Our competition was inspired by the forthcoming Thinking Of You Week. An initiative created by the GCA, it’s a special week that harnesses the emotional power of greeting cards to create a wave of love, caring and happiness.
“We all know how sending handwritten cards generates positive feelings of wellbeing and even science has proven that receiving a handwritten card creates a lovely warm positive boost. This year’s Thinking Of You Week runs from 19-25 September. So why not get involved and help spread some joy and happiness in these uncertain times?”
Run by Bev, of the Ginger Bee Studios photographic business, and co-founder Hannah Curtis, of art licensing agency Creative Sparrow, Creative Card Collective offers information, advice, inspiration and insights about the card industry and provides a community of supportive, like-minded creatives.
