Stuart Cauldwell sells up after 20 years as fourth book is published
After 20 years of being silly on greeting cards, Stuart Cauldwell has sold his card publishing business Splimple to go off and concentrate on being silly in print – having just released his fourth novel.
Otter House is taking over the greeting card business from 1 May, including all the licences such as Alison’s Animals.
“We’ve have had a relationship with Otter House for several years, as they’ve licenced some of our cards. They are a lovely business with similar values to us – and the ideal home for our customers.”
Specialising in humour designs, the Splimple ranges include Alison Lingley’s Alison’s Animals and World Of James Herriott, plus In Yer Face, Red & Howling, Barking At The Moon, Wordies, The New Normal, Note To Self, Tales From Whipplebottom Turvey, and British And Brokeish.
Stuart left the world of advertising to set up Splimple in 2002 in his home county of Warwickshire. He attended Stratford’s King Edward VI School – the same as William Shakespeare – though he was “impolitely asked to leave at age 14, by coincidence, the same age as the Bard himself” but has been writing for four decades, and over the past four years has released four humorous novels.
The latest, An Unexpected Goose, follows Fart And Toast, A Beginner’s Guide To Dipping Your Haddock, and The Quillyings Of Young Shakespeare, and is available on Amazon.
“I’m currently writing my fifth novel,” Stuart added and, with Splimple in its new home, his spare time is now likely to be spent “hiking, watching Aston Villa, playing the saxophone and enjoying the grandkids”.
