All Ohh Deer’s greeting cards are to be sold unwrapped by the end of the year. The company is to adopt using the recently designed Kard Klasp (being offered by greeting card printer Windles), which replaces the need for the cellophane sleeve by wrapping around the card and envelope, keeping both items safe and secure during transportation and on retail shelves.
Commenting, the shift to using the Kard Klasp, Ohh Deer’s co-founder Mark Callaby told PG Buzz: “People’s attitudes towards the use of plastic is changing and Blue Planet II was a massive turning point for most people. Collectively we’re all responsible for our planet’s future and we believe that we should also do our part.”
Making a more direct remark about the greeting card industry, Mark added, “I think many people have naively assumed that the cellowrap on cards won’t make much of an impact, but our industry produces a crazy amount of cards and we should all be responsible for helping our industry become environmental leaders.”
To Mark’s mind the launch of Kard Klasp from Windles is “a real solution that works for the industry as really helps us to move forward with removing plastic from our company while solving the problem for retailers and the purchaser of not losing the envelope.”
Having moved over to only using FSC board a while ago, the adoption of Kard Klasp is part of Ohh Deer’s continued commitment to reduce its environmental impact as a company. “We hope this will be the first step towards a completely plastic-free future,” added Mark.
