Top comedian Micky Flanagan has had the audience in fits of giggles over his tales about buying a greeting card during which forms part of his routine in his latest An Another Fing tour.
Micky Flanagan’s kicked off his An Another Fing tour at the beginning of May and is getting rave reviews everywhere he goes; performing to sell-out crowds at nearly all venues.
One of the highlights of the act is a hilarious piece about the pressures of buying an anniversary card for his wife – forgetting about the anniversary until the last minute and having to buy a cheap card from the corner convenience store/garage and the subsequent trouble he got in to as his wife guessed exactly what had happened.
“His story had the audience in raptures,” commented Ian Bant, md of Ling Design who went to see the Micky Flanagan perform recently with his wife. “It is great that greeting cards receive such a high profile in the media, whether on TV programmes or comedy sketches, further reinforcing how engrained they are in our popular culture.”
Micky Flanagan is not the first comedian to find the process of buying greeting cards amusing. American comedian Kevin James also has a lengthy sketch about the difference in men and women buying greeting cards, which is very funny. The sketch touches on the emotional power that giving a woman a greeting card can wield, as well as the carefully considered thought process that females generally go through when selecting a card, compared to the rather quickfire card buying decisions from menfolk. Kevin James plays up the stereotypical treatment to great aplomb, holding the audience’s attention as he acts out a scene of a woman evaluating different card designs from an imaginary card rack.
Cherry Orchard managing director Jackie Collins was so taken by the performance that it was shown at the publisher’s recent sales meeting which took place last week, which saw the unveiling of its significant new launch, Scent With Love, a delicate fragranced card range.
