Grassroots campaign returns to Instagram with Operation 1000 Likes plea
The Just A Card campaign is back in action after nearly a year of social media silence – and is looking for support to get the Instagram reach going again with its Operation 1000 Likes.
The grassroots organisation has long been a champion of supporting independent retailers, publishers and creative businesses, inspiring the public to show their allegiance to indies.
Aiming to get 1,000 likes per post on the platform, founder Sarah Hamilton has sent out a short newsletter explaining “the future of Just A Card hangs in the balance”, and she’ll be revealing the full details shortly, although she did tease the news on Instagram yesterday, 21 October, that a crowdfunder is about to be launched.
“Until then we really – pretty please with bells on! – need your help to get our Instagram reach back, as it will be down dramatically due to our absence,” Sarah said. “So please make an extra effort to like comment and save all our posts so everyone sees them. Let’s aim for 1,000 likes and saves per post!
“We really need to pull together if this campaign is to survive and keep spreading our vital message. It’s make-or-break for Just A Card right now – the difference is you.”
Artist and author Sarah founded the grassroots Just A Card campaign over 10 years ago after hearing an indie shop plead that buying “just a card” would have stopped them from closing, and it is supported by www.link.store, Locally UK, Cricut, British Independent Retailers’ Association, Funding Circle, Scotland’s Trade Fair, The GCA, Top Drawer, The Art File, The Design Trust, Made By Cooper, and Cardgains buying group.
Heartened by the warm welcome back for the Instagram post on Thursday, 17 October, the first for almost a year, Sarah then posted: “There is a reason for the radio silence, and we have written it all in a newsletter. We haven’t sent it yet – first we wanted to ensure you’re on our mailing list. So please, if you’d like to hear what’s going on, then sign up right now at www.justacard.org.
“One of the things we’ve said, is that in order for us to keep the campaign going we’re going to have to ask you all to step up to the plate and pitch in as much as possible. Simple things, like now for instance – as we’ve been away our Instagram reach is going to tank. So can we ask you to like this post, tell us below if you’re on the mailing list and also please save the post too.
“Your engagement is crucial. We do have things to tell you, which are really important, and you’re going to want to hear, so keep your eyes peeled on this page, and also read the newsletter. Things have changed – we need you to know.”
