This time next week, the industry will be gearing up for its ‘big night’ – The Henries event – at which the winners of this year’s greeting card product awards will be revealed.
Fresh from being talk of the town at Edinburgh Festival, top stand-up and presenter John Robins has been confirmed as the host for The Henries, which takes place next Thursday (October 5) at the Royal Lancaster London Hotel.
His show, The Darkness of Robins, co-won the Best Comedy Show award in the Edinburgh Comedy Awards. It is based on John combining humour with sentiment (two crucial elements in greeting cards, of course) with his affable comedic style lending itself to observations about his recent break-up with fellow comedian, Sarah Pascoe.
“We are delighted that John was more than up for turning his skills to the relationship business of greeting cards as host for this year’s Henries awards event,” said Warren Lomax, co-owner of Progressive Greetings, which organises The Henries.
Adding a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ to The Henries this year is the Parisian theme of the event.
Hundreds of publishers of all shapes and sizes, retailers and trade suppliers will be greeted by leading accordionist and clarinet duo Vive La France in the champagne reception before moving into the refurbished ballroom of the rechristened Royal Lancaster London Hotel to enjoy a evening of celebration, gastronomy, bonhomie and joie de vivre!
Live band, The Lionels will get things moving on the dancefloor while House of Cards will add the opportunity to crystalise memories with a Magic Mirrors photo ‘booth’.
