Italian style comes to Elphicks store

Campo Marzio launches stationery and accessories shop-in-shop in Surrey

Italian style has just become more attainable with a link-up between Rome-based stationery and accessories brand Campo Marzio, Manuscript and Elphicks department store.

Manuscript has recently been appointed the UK distributor for Campo Marzio and the brand was last week (April 12) launched as a shop within a shop at Elphicks in Farnham, Surrey, in April.

“We’re stocking a range of vegan leather handbags, man bags, notebooks and pens,” Elphicks group buyer Alison Brookes said, “Campo has supplied fixtures and signage to create a shop in shop in our accessories/gift area. There’s also be a table-top display in our men’s dept, along with a stand of pens at our till point between accessories and cards/gift wrap.

“We selected the brand as it gives us an understated contemporary range in a warm colour palette which will appeal to our discerning customers.”

Elphicks has been part of Farnham’s elegant shopping district for 140 years, with the store expanding out from its original 13 High Street premises into a large department store, and undergoing a large rear extension in recent years. As the first UK bricks-and-mortar store launch for Campo Marzio, the new products will be featured in the main central window.

Founded in 1933 in the exclusive Campo Marzio artisanal area of Rome, the company has been creating bags, stationery and accessories ever since, creating a special collection of fountain pens in 2000 for the Vatican Museum to commemorate the Catholic Church jubilee and, from 2006, has built up a portfolio of more than 50 retail outlets in over 30 countries.

With a broad target audience, the brand fits well with the current growing love of luxury stationery in the UK as younger generations grasp the delights of going non-tech, losing the screens to delve into the joys of journal-keeping, list-making, and simply writing things down.

Javier Sáinz de los Terreros Elizalde is ceo of the company’s London operation and says: “In a nutshell we sell everyday products with timeless designs of simple lines with bright and vibrant colours that breathe Italian DNA all over it – with colour, Italian style, and versatility.

“The spirit or essence of the brand always lies in the joy of using the product. It has a gift or self-gift character that is present throughout our assortment.

“Our customers’ new ways of living and existing also influence us when it comes to designing versatile and contemporary products. We have a clear objective to satisfy the tastes and demands of the British customer and we are corporately focused on this.”

As part of the company’s expansion into the UK market, Campo Marzio is the pen and place card sponsor for the very first UK Gift Awards event, to be held on Thursday, 12 May, at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel. Marking a significant unified step forward for the UK gift industry, the awards event ceremony will bring together the GA’s Gift of the Year Awards and The Greats gift retailer awards – currently celebrating their 20th milestone year – organised and owned by Max Publishing, publishers of Progressive Greetings magazine.
