Aldi, the major value supermarket, is certainly ramping up its presence in the greeting card sector in the UK. It has just been announced that IG Design Group UK (DGUK) is to create and supply an exclusively-designed range of greeting cards into approximately half the retailer’s UK stores. Aldi is on course to be trading from 851 stores by September. This news follows a two-phased extended greeting card trial with DGUK which has spanned almost 100 Aldi stores.

The selection comprises 80 card designs (all of which have been created by DGUK’s studio in Wales), offered at a single price point of 99p. These will be displayed on a brand new, bespoke fixture which has been created specifically for the range, to further aid improved presentation of the greeting cards in store.
Commenting on the roll-out, Design Group UK’s greetings card channel controller David Jackson told PG Buzz: “IG Design Group are thrilled that our partnership and trial collaboration with a bespoke range of single cards, designed specifically with the Aldi consumer in mind, has now taken a further significant step forward.”
He explained that the Design Group team “have worked extremely closely with Aldi to ensure the performance of the trial has led to the greeting cards category forming part of Aldi’s core product offer. We believe the inclusion of a bespoke range of greetings cards will now enhance the Aldi shopping experience across many more stores.”
The Aldi card range roll-out is anticipated to begin in September 2019 and be completed during December 2019.
- As previously covered in PG Buzz, as part of its ‘dual supplier strategy, Aldi has also been running trials with Card Factory in 100+ stores in the North. (https://www.pgbuzz.net/card-factory-opens-concessions-in-matalan/)
