MP’s jungle stint prompts online card operator to offer new collection
Politician Matt Hancock has decamped to the jungle where his I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here stint has prompted Thortful.com to offer cards depicting the MP who claims he’s “just a normal human being”.
Having been disgraced as secretary of state for health and social care during the pandemic after breaching his own Covid19 rules, the ribaldry around Hancock has intensified after his decision to join top presenters Ant and Dec’s TV show in the Australian jungle led to the Conservative whip being withdrawn.
Hancock found himself becoming a Twitter sensation overnight when he spoke in the show’s short introduction about wanting to show people MPs are just regular human beings.
And, since entering the jungle as a late arrival with comedian Seann Walsh on 8 November, he’s so far been forced to undertake six of the eight bushtucker trials by public vote, with Boy George the only other celeb having to do more than one – and even then it’s only two.
The search term ‘Matt Hancock I’m a celebrity’ has increased by more than 5,000% in the past 30 days according to Google Trends keywords data, and Linkfluence.com data shows Twitter entertainment/TV and radio sentiment has him as a popular subject – but 40% of users are negative with just 5% positive!
These figures prompted greeting card online marketplace Thortful.com to launch a range of Matt Hancock cards, influenced by the MP’s love for Ed Sheeran, among other things.
“At Thortful, we pride ourselves on being able to offer our customers a wide range of cards,” said a spokesman, “even the ones which are a bit naughty from time to time. We hope you can find a card that makes you chortle, or laugh out loud, leading up to Christmas!”
