Ginger Betty’s egg-cellent art

Track down Tracey’s decorated works on Big Egg Hunt trail through London

There’s egg-citing news for greeting card publisher Ginger Betty as founder Tracey Colliston’s artwork has decorated two of the giant eggs on a trail through London.

This Easter the Elephant Family charity, which champions Asian wildlife conservation, and the Clarence Court egg company have joined forces to create the Big Egg Hunt trail featuring over 100 of the two-feet high eggs across the capital’s iconic locations and landmarks, including Chelsea, Canary Wharf, Covent Garden, Marble Arch, Battersea Power Station, The Barbican, the British Museum and the Royal Albert Hall.

Tracey’s egg-cellent artworks – You’re Loved…So Much features her cute characters while there are elephants on Family Is Everything – can be found from 24 March through to 27 April, and there’s a free app, which will be available to download here when the trail starts, where people can tick off each egg as they find it, with prizes along the way. Once the trail finishes the sculptures will be auctioned to raise money for Elephant Family.

“We had the bare eggs delivered to us a few weeks ago, and have been decorating them on our dining room table,” Tracey explained. “And I miss them being there now!

“As far as I know, we’re the only greeting card company taking part, I was invited to do a Ginger Betty-style egg initially, then later an elephant one.”

All the eggs were displayed in Covent Garden on Monday, 10 March, including the 12 from the Little Egg Hunt in Chelsea last year, and featured on BBC News.

Founded by Mark Shand, the late brother of HRH Queen Camilla, Elephant Family has been organising public art displays since 2003, and is the only charity where both the king and queen are joint presidents.

Mark first ran the Big Egg Hunt in London in 2012 to raise money and awareness for the plight of the Asian elephant, then took it to New York to years later, and its return to the UK is aimed at representing creativity in the city that’s free for all to enjoy.

Tracey said she and partner Pete visited Covent Garden to take pictures and meet some of the other artists, and added:” It was surreal seeing people taking pics of our eggs!

“They’ve now been taken away to get ready to be sent to their positions for when the egg hunt begins. I know where one of the eggs will be, but don’t think I’m supposed to say just now – but it’s a damn good spot!”
