Eighth birthday card from the Queen for UK’s 6th oldest person

Grace Jones is completely on trend with what is going on in the greeting card industry – not the daring songstress, but a Worcestershire-based lady who reinforced the surge in demand for high age cards.

Having reached her 11th birthday, Grace Jones received her eighth card from the Queen.

Grace, who is the oldest person in the UK, has just celebrated her 111th birthday and was delighted to receive a wonderful array of greeting cards, including another one from the Queen to add to her collection.  She has now received eight birthday cards from Her Majesty.

Having received her first birthday card from the Queen when she was 100, Grace was told that the next birthday card from the monarch would arrive when she was 105. Grace, who lives in warden controlled accommodation, thought for a moment and then looked up and said ‘I can wait’. And she has done much better than that.

The Queen loves both giving and receiving cards.

The Buckingham Palace team responsible for co-ordinating the Queen’s birthday and anniversary card sends have pre-empted the issue of sending the same greeting card design to the same person by publishing a series of different designs that are used for subsequent sends.

Still a keen partygoer, the tenacious Grace puts her longevity down to a tot of whisky every day and a positive, worry-free attitude.

The greeting card industry returned the favour to the Queen for sending so many birthday and anniversary cards to those in the UK by delivering an impressive collection of greeting cards to Buckingham Palace for Her Majesty’s Diamond Anniversary (pictured) and 90th birthday.

The supercentenarian, who swopped whisky for champagne for her recent milestone celebration, told the BBC: “Some people are so miserable aren’t they? I can’t understand them. They’ll say, ‘oh dear, I’ll just stay home’ but I like to enjoy myself.”

Unbelievably this is not the first Grace Jones to be blessed with long life as she shares a name with a lady who died aged 113 in 2013.
