Eating by colour!

Pantone lunch fun sees Simson Cards matching tomatoes to shade chart

They’ve been putting the colour into their lives down under as Simson Design Studio went full-on Pantone for the second year running.

The annual Pantone Lunch saw the team from the Aussie publisher and distributor each pull a number from the international colour library’s book and had to prepare a dish to best match the selection.

“It was a bit of a hoot when I went to the supermarket with my Pantone book trying to match the colours to various foods,” laughed John ‘Simo’ Simson, who runs the studio and Simson Cards with wife Bindi, and they’re well-known visitors to PG Live each year. “It turns out tomatoes are not exactly PMS 199 – but more 2035!”

“As you can imagine, our lives in the studio are governed by our Pantone books as we strive to achieve the colours required, so we hold a Pantone Lunch in its honour, this was the second annual event.

“It’s a good time to celebrate a very full-on workload across the year in the studio and some of us also dressed in our designated pantone colour.

“You think you know the colour of food, but it’s not until you reference a Pantone book that you truly select the right colour. The sight of me in the local supermarket matching colours in my Pantone book to raw salmon, strawberries or avocados left other customers and staff in the supermarket somewhat bewildered!”
