Dayo Williams, founder of handmade card publisher Dayo’s Cards is ever ready to rise to the occasion to promote not just her cards, but the importance of celebrating diversity. Well, she reached new heights on Wednesday (February 19) having a 10 minute one-to-one with Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall.
As part of a visit to Brent, which is the 2020 London Borough City of Culture, the Duchess took a tour of The Granville in South Kilburn, a multi-use building with studio space for local businesses and enterprises, including Dayo’s Cards.
“She was so lovely and was completely mesmerised by the different designs of the women I feature on my cards and how I reflect diversity by featuring the 19 different skin tones across the range,” Dayo told PG Buzz. “I was rather nervous beforehand and was unsure which leg to use to curtsey, but it was very special to have so much time with her and show her what I do,” added Dayo.
Camilla was delighted to be presented with a boxed card specially created for her by Dayo.
“As she favours more cream/off-white outfits I based the design on that colour palette, but remembering that lovely hat she wore at her wedding I made sure to include a fitting head-dress. She genuinely seemed to like it,” said Dayo.
The Duchess’ visit was covered in all manner of media, from Hello to the Daily Express, Daily Mail to The Crown Chronicles. The latter (https://thecrownchronicles.co.uk/royal-news/duchess-of-cornwall-celebrates-brent-on-a-day-of-engagements-in-the-borough/) includes several photographs of Camilla talking to Dayo.
