Magic happens thanks to PG Live as artist collaborates with wrap firm
The PG Live wand has worked its magic again as Deva Designs and Meg Hawkins have struck up a licensing deal for gift wrap and bags after being show neighbours.
Never ones to miss an opportunity, Deva MD Andrew Maddock and sales director Jenny Williams got straight to work after the June exhibition and, less than six months later, Meg’s signature Highland Cow is mooing softly from the brand-new collection, all ready for retailers to see at the new year trade fairs.
“We were next to Meg at PG Live in the summer, and just got chatting, as you do,” Andrew laughed, “Jenny and I really love Meg’s beautiful artwork and I ended up taking a diffuser of Meg’s home.
“Meg and her daughter Coral came up to see us in Chester not long after. Our art wizard Reuben Duffy then waved his creative wand and produced a really sophisticated collection that we all wanted immediately.
“Both Meg and Deva then ended up at another trade show weeks later opposite each other, and we all just felt like a family. My motto has always been – if it feels right straightaway, then it usually is.”
And the family fun is already continuing with the Deva team, Meg and Coral getting together at Cardgains’ buying group’s recent Christmas do, and the girls joined in the agents’ sales launch at the publisher’s base last week too.
The initial designs see a big version of the Coo on the bags, and one side of the wrap, with a smaller repeat on the reverse: “I’m sure it will end up as a poster in a lot of rooms – ours included,” said Andrew.
It’s the latest licence for Deva Designs, which has collaborated with Designers’ Guild for over 30 years, and Andrew added: “We don’t chop and change our licences – we’re always in it for the long term. We are proud to be working with Lola Design and Julie Dodsworth too. All are very different and all add their unique creativity to our collection.”
