Danielle McCarthy earns her stripes

GCA’s new marketing and events coordinator appointed

Danielle McCarthy is really earning her stripes in the greeting card industry as she’s just become the GCA’s new marketing and events coordinator – a bit of a change from her other work with publisher Stripey Cats!

Having been helping partner Jonathan Crosby since 2017 with the family business that’s famous for its googly-eyed designs, Danielle is getting more deeply involved with the greetings industry by joining CEO Amanda Fergusson at the association.

“Coming from a corporate background I fell in love with the industry when I started helping at Stripey Cats,” she told PG Buzz as she started the role with the GCA this week. “It was like a breath of fresh air. I love the people, the creativity and how friendly everyone is, it’s a fun industry to be a part of and I don’t think you get that in any other profession! We’re very lucky!

“This opportunity feels like both a natural progression and a full-circle moment in my life. Twenty-odd years ago for my A-level English language coursework the topic I chose to write about was the history of the language of Valentine’s Day cards, from the very first one to present day and how that had changed over time – so it’s incredible to think that I’m now working for the Greeting Card Association and have the opportunity to support and champion an industry that truly I love.”

Danielle’s learned all about the industry by helping with all the Stripey Cats’ business administration and marketing, processing orders and making personalised children’s clocks which the publisher also sells direct to consumers on the gift side of the business.

And she added: “Being able to contribute to this community is a privilege and I can’t wait to get started so am looking forward to catching up with all publishers, and meeting those I haven’t yet at PG Live.”

And new colleague Amanda commented: “I’m thrilled Danielle has accepted our offer to join the GCA and am really looking forward to working with her.”

Danielle will be assisting with marketing as well as the organisation of events such as the webinars, GCA Local get-togethers, Dragons Speed Dating, Pride In London march on Sunday, 5 July, and the GCA AGM & Conference in Manchester on 25 September. She can be contacted on danielle@gca.cards.
