PG Live is renowned as a show where ‘business meets pleasure’, something Emotional Rescue took to the next level by turning its stand into a pub – called the Stoat & Scrotum.
Among the significant ‘bar chats’ was that with John and Bindi Simson, co-owners of Melbourne-based Simson Cards who signed a licensing agreement ‘over a beer’ with Martin Nevin, joint md of Emotional Rescue to re-establish Emotional Rescue cards in the Australian and New Zealand market.
Jennie Rutter, creative director of ‘Emo’ revealed that “Simson has now launched On-The-Ceiling, the first of the ER catalogue to be printed down-under. John and Bindi have confirmed that the initial sales were fantastic and the range received a very positive reception in their market.”
While growing the company’s global greeting card position was one reason to show at PG Live, the main focus was to discover who is the industry’s best darts player.
The champ of the oche, decided by a fiercely contested ‘best of three’ darts competition is Claire Cheng, UKG category manager for Sainsbury’s who won a £500 voucher for a weekend away in a swanky country pub. Two runner-up prizes of £50 retail vouchers went to Cards Galore buyer Trish Corner and UKG’s Gary Head.
Commenting on the ‘arrows action’, Mark Barnes, Emotional Rescue’s sales development manager, stated: “Claire was incredible, she kept her cool when the pressure was on and you could hear the tension in the hall as her first dart struck the board. We will always remember the moment we saw Claire ‘The Power’ Cheng take the oche. We hope she has a wonderful time away.”
Claire Cheng, expressed her delight at winning this year’s competition and is currently away from her desk sourcing a pair Hunter wellies and a copy of Country Life in preparation!
While well known for his prowess on the golf course, as Chris Houfe (formerly of GBCC) does not join Emotional Rescue as its joint managing director until July 2, his darts skills were not put to the test at the show.
