Charity challenge sees Alzheimer’s Society collect £26,645 – now sign up for this year!
There was a crowd chequing out the Cardgains Village at Spring Fair yesterday, 6 February, as the buying group handed over the amazing £26,645 proceeds from its latest charity challenge.
And there were 4,645 extra reasons to be happy with the cheque handed over to the Alzheimer’s Society as that was the sum the UItimate Ullswater event smashed its target by thanks to the generosity of the greeting card industry.
“We had a target of £22,000 because it was 2022 – and it just went mad!” Cardgains managing director Penny Shaw told PG. “It’s nice to have the presentation here at Spring Fair so people that took part can see where the money goes.”
Alzheimer’s Society community fundraiser Amy De Ville was on hand for the presentation, although the money is already working hard for the charity as it’s collected through the Just Giving website so goes straight into the coffers.
Amy said: “It’s a fantastic achievement, it all goes towards our work and research. We campaign for change for people living with dementia and also supports development of our services, and the support we offer. We really do try to provide help for people living with dementia and their families and this money will be a tremendous help towards that.”
All 37 walkers from the greetings industry completed the tough event around Ullswater Lake in the Lake District on 30 June, 2022, which was a relaunch of the Cardgains Charity Challenge after the hiatus caused by Covid.
And there’s a form on the desk at Cardgains Village – stand 3M10-N11 right at the front of the Greetings & Stationery section in Hall 3 until Spring Fair ends tomorrow, 8 February – where people can sign up for the 2023 challenge.
The buying group is bringing the event down south this year with a 25-mile saunter around London and its fantastic historic sites planned for Thursday, 29 June, in aid of MND, a charity close to the greeting card industry following last year’s death of legend David Hicks who suffered with motor neurone disease. You do not need to be a Cardgains member or supplier to participate.
