Call for more UK schools to join in Thinking Of You Week card exchange with Ghanaian pupils
Cardzone and Sainsbury’s have kicked off the Thinking Of You Week 2023 programme by becoming the first retailers to sign up to support this year’s festival of sending a card to deliver a smile.
The GCA’s annual event that harnesses the emotional power of greeting cards to create a wave of love, caring and happiness runs over 18-24 September this year.
Key information and a downloadable toolkit of design assets for publishers and retailers to engage with this special week are now available.
GCA ceo Amanda Fergusson shared her delight that Cardzone and Sainsbury’s have got on board so early, and commented: “Last year Clintons, Scribbler, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, House of Cards, Stationery Supplies, Co-Op and Moonpig were just some of the retailers across the country who joined in – over 1,000 retailers across the UK, plus many others in the US, Australia and New Zealand also got involved in this special week.”
While several other major retailers are currently working through their plans to support the initiative again this year, Royal Mail has pledged its support for the 2023 initiative.
“The GCA will be again be running a consumer pr campaign to raise the profile of TOYW with consumers. We will be speaking to journalists, targeted bloggers, vloggers and others to encourage everyone to send cards this TOYW,” added Amanda.
The GCA is also continuing its Schools Project between schools in the UK and Ghana, following on from the success last year which saw 9,000 children in the two countries exchange cards for Thinking Of You Week.
“We’re calling all parents and teachers,” GCA membership and marketing coordinator Adriana Lovesy told PG Buzz, “as we’d like more UK schools to join our GCA Schools Project. So, we’re hoping people in the greeting card industry will make the connection with any school they know.
“Schools signing up will receive a teaching aid on Ghana, free cards for the children to write plus, of course, cards from children at their matched Ghanaian school.”
