Cards bring the sun

UKG supports two charities with special designs

UK Greetings is using its greeting cards to support the local community with two special designs that are helping people with life-limiting conditions as well as youngsters suffering hearing loss.

Having previously worked with The Kirkwood Hospice on its Snowdogs art trail around UKG’s home area of Kirklees, which includes its Dewsbury base, the publisher has been involved in this year’s Sunflower Memories event.

“It’s always a special day in The Kirkwood’s calendar,” UKG’s internal communications manager Heather Clarkson said, “because it sees people from all over Kirklees come together to remember their loved ones and view the sunflower plaques dedicated in their names.

“Each visitor received one of UK Greetings’ beautiful sunflower cards, which our fantastic creative and production teams produced, which we hope brought them comfort and a memory of the day.”

The 10th annual Sunflower Memories event was held in the hospice gardens in Huddersfield on Saturday, 22 July – although it had to be moved inside because of the rather wet weather – where their aim is to make a positive impact and help improve the quality of life for local people affected by a life-limiting illness.

Everyone who made a dedication for someone special received a commemorative card from UKG and a sunflower plaque with their loved one’s name which were all planted around the gardens, creating a sea of yellow blooms for visitors to view.

And UKG has also stepped up to support the Usher Kids UK charity, which supports and advocates for children with the genetic condition that’s characterised by hearing loss or deafness as well as a progressive loss of vision, and their families.

Heather added: “We’ve donated some beautiful thank you cards, that read ‘You’re simply the best’ in British sign language – the cards will be a great way for the families to thank their volunteers and donors.”
