Pride at greetings retail giant over first Licensing Awards trophy honour
Increased activity on the licensed cards front has earned Cardfactory the honour of winning The Radar Award at this week’s Licensing Awards.
Presented to the retailer judged to have considerably upped its licensing activities over the past year, it’s a first-time trophy for the specialist greeting card, gift and party business, coming out top of the nine finalists.
Chief commercial officer Adam Dury told PG Buzz: “To receive our first ever Licensing Award means a tremendous amount to all of the Cardfactory team. We’re all very proud of our licensed ranges and love being part of such a fabulous industry whereby we can develop such amazing products.”
Among the retailer’s greetings ranges are Pokémon, Harry Potter, Barby, Cocomelon, Paw Patrol, Peter Rabbit, Baby Shark, L.O.L Surprise, Batman, Peppa Pig, Hey Dugee, Thomas & Friends, JCB, WWE, Looney Tunes, Peppa Pig, Minions, Elf, Trolls, and Mr Men and Little Miss.
The Licensing Awards winners were announced on Tuesday, 10 September, at a glittering ceremony with 1,200 industry executives filling the Great Room at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, as can be seen in the video below.
Hosted by multi-award-nominated comedian Suzi Ruffell, the event opened with a special industry spoof of The Traitors, before Jakki Brown, md at Max Publishing which owns and organises The Licensing Awards, officially welcomed everyone, saying: “There are 1,200 of us here, all to celebrate everything that is great about the licensing industry – the people, the products, the brands and the passion.
“We’re all in the entertainment business and so this event, the largest awards event for the licensing industry in the world, just has to reflect that. It should be fun and memorable – and hopefully tonight will be that and much more.”
Also representing the greetings industry at the event was Danilo, both as a sponsor and as a finalist with its Squishmallows calendar, card and wrap range in the Best Licensed Paper Products Or Stationery Range.
As category sponsor for the Best Music Or Celebrity Property award, the publisher’s founder and chairman Laurence Prince presented that trophy, won this year by The Beatles which is owned by Apple Corp and represented by Caroline Mickler Licensing.
The full list of winners can be seen here, and Hunter Price was triumphant in the Paper Products Or Stationery Range with its Crayola Kraft collection, beating off the competition from fellow finalists Tache, Pyramid International, Craft Buddy, Robert Frederick, Hallmark Cards, Blueprint Collection, UK Greetings, BlueSky Designs, and Toasted Crumpet, as well as Danilo.
