Humour hits Valentine’s Day as Objectables highlights Brits’ taste
British humour and Valentine’s Day have collided with Cardfactory’s Work Wife and Work Husband designs blowing up on social media – even though the card captions have been on offer for years.
The Daily Mail highlighted the row earlier this week after TikTok user @elehunn released the reel below calling out the greeting card retail giant for what she feels is an inappropriate expression of love for the big day tomorrow, 14 February.
With the cards reading “For my work wife on Valentine’s Day. I’ve finally found someone just as inappropriate as me!” in pink, and white for a work husband, Ellie wrote: “Surely not, Cardfactory”, on the clip on her profile, and added “Fuming. Sort it out.” as a comment.
But the 6,600-plus comments were split between versions of “don’t buy if you don’t like it” and others upset because “I’ve lost two husbands to a work wife, I’m traumatised” and“it’s all fun and games until your husband really leaves you for his work wife like mine did”.
And one pointed out: “They do these every year,” but added that they used to work at Cardfactory “and would stare down anyone who bought a work wife/husband card”.
Meanwhile, Objectables has kept up with the naughty humour Valentine’s vibe, making good use of the display at the Folkestone retailer and publisher to come up with a daft film, which can be seen below, thanks to a collaboration with Folkestone College.
Co-owner Tim Gould explained that a few weeks ago the college had been in contact to ask them to help a couple of students looking for a local business to work with on a project in their year 1 multimedia course.
“Two very nice young men called Bailey and Luca turned up and this is what they made,” he laughed. “I just want to say thank you for being game, not freaking out, and making a fun film for us!”
