Bookings take off for The Ladder Club seminars

An incredibly strong line up of speakers, the earlier September timing (19 and 20 September) and a positive momentum has seen bookings for both The Ladder Club one day seminars ratchet up some four months before the event.

The two one day seminars will take place on Tuesday 19 September and Wednesday 20 September, taking place at The Ladder Club’s ‘spiritual home’ of the Cliffs Pavilion, Westcliff on Sea, Essex.

Cost of attending each day is £65 (including VAT), including lunch and refreshments.

Among the top speakers to have already pledged their support include John and Jennie Procter, co-founders of Scribbler, Andrea Pinder, co-owner of Unit 7 card shops and, all the way from Sydney, Jenny Cummins, md of McMillan Cards, a major Australian distributor of UK publishers. Leading names from the publishing world, including Wendy Jones-Blackett, co-founder of the eponymous publisher; Megan Purdie, founder of Megan Claire; Jessica Hogarth of Jessica Hogarth Designs; Ged Mace, md of The Art File and Jeremy Corner, md of Blue Eyed Sun will also be sharing their knowledge and giving invaluable tips at the seminars.

Meanwhile, covering all aspects of the production and fulfillment side of card publishing representatives from Enveco, GF Smith, The Imaging Centre and Sherwood Group, will be on hand on both days to answer queries on envelopes, paper, printing, fulfillment and diversification into allied products.

“I can’t quite believe it is now almost 20 years since we started The Ladder Club – and it continues to grow stronger by the year with those who have benefitted from it willing to give back by sharing their experiences thereby enabling newbie publishers to avoid many pitfalls and getting their business off on a firm footing,” commented Lynn Tait, founder of The Ladder Club.

The Day One seminar (Tuesday 19 September) is targeted at would-be or fledgling card companies. The agenda will cover the rudiments of greeting card publishing – avoiding the early pitfalls, all the production queries and quandaries, how to price your cards, how to get your cards to market, preparing for trade shows and the advantages of being in The Ladder Club. If you have never attended a Ladder Club seminar before, then this one is for you.

The Day Two seminar (Wednesday 20 September) is aimed at publishers who have attended a Day One Ladder Club seminar before. It is for publishers who have been trading for a little while, exhibited at one trade show at least and want to know more about growing their business through better economies of scale, agents, licensing, supplying multiple retailers, brokerage, export. The agenda of the Day Two seminar changes every year to make it interesting and informative for those publishers who have attended previously.

Delegates are encouraged to arrive the evening prior and attend a relaxed dinner so that the networking gets off to a great start.
