Bex is larging it in Ulster

Colourful card characters brighten the streets thanks to Moores and M.E.G

Larger than life and twice as fun – that’s publisher Bexy Boo’s fabulous colourful characters who are now brightening up the streets of Coleraine in Northern Ireland thanks to the largest store in the province.

The greeting card department of Moores has bright windows facing the shopping area, but the flat brown veneer ends of the card racks were decidedly dull until Michael Gray, md of Irish distributors M.E.G Cards & Gifts, had a brainwave to pep up the fixtures with some of Bexy’s artwork.

Michael and his team now have full control of the greeting card supply to Moores of Coleraine, one of four outlets in its Ulster Stores group, which is second only to Dublin’s Brown Thomas in Ireland.

“Would you have any artwork, maybe from a trade show, of one of your characters that I could have printed to cover the end panels?” Michael asked Bex Hassett, owner and creative maestro of Bexy Boo.

Over the moon at being asked to help such a fabulous shop Bex was only too happy to oblige, and was absolutely delighted when the artwork was unveiled instore last week.

“I was thrilled to have been asked to design some artwork for such a prestigious store,” Bex told PG Buzz, “it was a bit nerve-racking as it was the first time I’ve been asked to create artwork on this scale. However, the Moores’ team loved the first draft of designs I sent over and, the next thing I knew, my characters were larger than life, smiling back at me in the shop window. It was such a fantastic feeling and I’m super happy at how it’s turned out!”

Also based in Coleraine, Michael said: “Our local Moores is a really great store and has just had a major refit so is looking lovely. I am personally in store three times a week at the moment, merchandising and pretty much running the department to squeeze as much out of it as I can, it’s fair to say that it’s the closest thing we will have to our own shop.”

M.E.G is a distributor throughout Ireland of “some of the finest greeting cards in the world” and, along with Bexy Boo, it also distributes The Art File, Blue Eyed Sun, Five Dollar Shake, Molly Mae, Portico Designs, Rachel Ellen Designs and Toasted Crumpet, among others.
