Brainbox Candy co-founder is cut above the rest with shear genius fundraising bid
Ben Hickman is proving to be a real hair-o as the Brainbox Candy co-founder and buffoon is on a hair-raising mission for charity.
After three years of growing his luscious blond locks, it’s now time for the chop so his hair can go to the Little Princess Trust to be made into a wig for a youngster who’s lost their own through cancer treatment or conditions such as alopecia.
“They supply the finished wig free of charge,” explained Ben – who can be seen in the video above – “to those who need them and fund kinder and more effective treatments for all childhood cancers.
“Even though I’m donating the hair, the wigs cost up to £700 to make and distribute – it would be lovely to raise some funds for such a worthwhile cause.
“I’ve read that some people donate hair and don’t raise any further cash and, while that’s brilliant, the charity can only make as many wigs as they can afford with the budget they have.”

As one of the UK’s largest funders of childhood cancer research, the trust also provides real hair wigs for 2,000 youngsters every year so, while Ben has set his JustGiving target at £700, he added; “I’d obviously love to smash that as it could help make more wigs.”
And the greeting card industry is already showing it’s a cut above the rest, helping push the total raised within the first couple of days to £1,250 plus almost £300 in gift aid donations, so let’s see how far that can go!
He got the idea from one of the drivers at the van hire company Brainbox Candy uses, who grows his hair every couple of years, then donates it to the trust when he finally has a haircut.
“Votes will be being taken for the next hairstyle from the selected options,” Ben laughed, “and the chop is happening at the end of April, just to eke out one more centimetre!”
