Allen Taylor’s on health march

IC&G sales director takes 385,000 steps to persuade men to get tested!

Allen Taylor has been on the march to raise awareness of prostate issues – and improved his own health along the way.

International Cards & Gifts’ sales director managed over 385,000 steps during the March The Month initiative for Prostate Cancer UK, raising £777 and hitting more than 11,000 steps a day which, as he pointed out, “is pretty good going for someone with a desk and car-bound role.”

“I didn’t do it for the money,” Allen told PG Buzz, “it was to raise awareness that blokes keep putting things like our health niggles off!

“It’s a great cause and my efforts may only make a tiny difference but it if flags up to us blokes to get tested then I’ve achieved my aim.”

He admitted he’d become “one of those 50-something men who had to get up to visit the loo a couple of times a night” but a close friend needing surgery after being diagnosed with prostate cancer prompted Allen to get his own check-up.

Having discovered it’s the most common cancer among men, with most having no symptoms in the early stages, Allen said: “I had a blood test and a two-minute examination, and was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate, through medication and future tests thankfully it’s something I can live with.

This prompted me to take the challenge, to get us blokes to spread the word and get tested. The response was great with friends, work colleagues and customers all backing my cause.”
