Adam Dury to leave Cardfactory

Retail multiple’s chief commercial officer headhunted for ‘incredible opportunity’

Adam Dury, who has been the trade-facing frontman of Cardfactory since he joined the retail group over five years ago, is to leave the retail group in December to take up what he describes as “an incredible opportunity that I just can’t miss”.

His new role, the full details of which will be revealed on Tuesday, 29 October, is still in retail but using his greeting card prowess will not be part of his remit, “initially at least, but you never know!” teased Adam, who was headhunted for the job.

“I love the greeting card industry, it has been very much part of my life for the last 25 years, and I will miss it very much,” added Adam who, prior to joining Cardfactory as chief commercial officer in 2019, was involved in cards during his 13 years at Tesco, latterly as category director of general merchandise, as well as the six years before at Marks & Spencer.

As well as being integrally involved in major developments at Cardfactory, including a total store look revamp, expansion into London locations, acquisitions of South Africa Greetings and Garlanna, Adam has also been very supportive of industrywide activities.

He gave a keynote address at last year’s GCA AGM & Conference and instigated the company’s involvement in Thinking Of You Week and #Cardmitment campaigns along with becoming a sponsor of The Henries.

Of his time at the retail giant, which has now grown to over 1,020 stores across the UK and Ireland, Adam said he was “hugely proud to have been a part of the Cardfactory team. It will always be a business I will hold dear to my heart, and I am still a shareholder so will still retain that connection, as well as the many friendships I have built up”.

The news of Adam’s departure was officially announced to the Cardfactory team yesterday 23 October.
