Medici Gallery celebrates Beatrix Potter and sets out festive stall in summer

Bunnies and Christmas is the way the Medici Gallery is hopping this summer at its South Kensington store.

The indie retailer has created a delightful Beatrix Potter window display complete with more than a few Peter Rabbits and his pals thanks to the recent Retas Awards event and relevant product suppliers.

Known for their inventive window displays, retail manager Tim Reynolds and assistant Charlie Wheatley got creative once again on after collecting a number of props from the World Of Beatrix Potter-themed Retas Awards event at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel in early July, in which the store was one of the six finalists in the Best Greeting Card Retailer London category.

And, despite it being the height of summer, the team is also leading the pack with a hefty Christmas corner already set up inside the store, which has been in situ since the 1930s.

This means it has beaten the usual Christmas shop front runners of Selfridges by over a month as the department store’s festive offer is only online before going live in the Oxford Street location in September.

Tim told PG Buzz: “I know, I know! It’s very early but we’ve been asked so many times when we’ll have our Christmas advents and cards out. After a long think, we have decided to put out a taster for what will come for those who are highly organised.”

Meanwhile over in Wadebridge, a fishy tail has put Bricknells – a family cards and stationery business which celebrates its centenary next year – top of the window display competition as part of the town carnival.

Co-owner Charlotte Bricknell said: “Wow! We’re over the moon to be this year’s winner, winning a lovely hamper. The theme was Cornish myths and legends and we chose the mermaid of Padstow.”

Still on the wonderful windows front, newbie publisher Sharon King-Chai has been putting her illustration talents to excellent use, decorating the glass at London’s South Kensington Books a few days ago.

As a bestselling children’s book illustrator, Sharon has used the window to publicise her work with author Julia Donaldson, and shop manager David Swindells said: “It was an absolute pleasure to welcome Sharon to the bookshop for a spectacular window painting.

“Celebrating her wonderful illustrative work, we have signed copies of her books, cards and prints for sale. We love it – thank you Sharon!”
