Georgi’s buzzing about her bees

Lil Wabbit publisher adds pollinators to her charity works

Georgi Doig may be better known for her dog designs, but she’s really buzzing about her latest environmentally-friendly link.

The Lil Wabbit publisher and artist has launched Cards For Bees, a scheme where for every card purchased one bee will be sponsored through The Bee Butler in her home area of West Sussex.

“We aim for every single card to have a positive impact on our community and, of course, help our essential local pollinators thrive!” Georgi told PG Buzz.

The Bee Butler offers a range of services including aviary preparation, hive management, swarm collection, bee-friendly garden design, sponsor a hive, and a bee keeping experience day, all aimed at helping people look after the insect that’s vital for the pollination of all plants and crops.

Every time a Lil Wabbit card is sold, Georgi counts the sale towards her annual Bee Butler contribution – this year the publisher has sponsored 60,000 bees to kick off the scheme.

“We’ll top this sponsorship up at the beginning of next year depending on how many cards we sell in 2024,” she added. “The reason our sponsorship is important is because honey bees are the only kind of bee that we, as humans, can really manage as we have little control over wild pollinators and bees are in critical decline, and honey bees contribute to our overall pollination in a big way!”

And Georgi has put the buzz into her designs too, with a number of bumble and honey bees featuring in new artwork as well as a bee logo on the back of cards with info about the scheme.

This is Lil Wabbit’s second charity collaboration as the publisher already works with StreetVet, which supports the pets of people experiencing homelessness in the UK, with her bestselling collection featuring paintings of the charity’s real patients with a photo and paragraph on the back outlining each animal’s story and the care received.

Georgi and partner Jai Whitehouse have already raised £8,000 for Street Vet and he is a third of the way through his 2024 challenge of running 12 marathons in 12 months in aid of the charity having just completed his fourth 26-miler in Tunisia with Russ Cook – aka Hardest Geezer – who has spent 352 days on a mammoth 10,000-mile jog across 16 countries in Africa, one of the first runners to do so.
