Rosie’s dead happy about new licence

Cath Tate Cards to launch Deadpan Cards collaboration at PG Live

Cath Tate Cards has an exciting new collaboration to show off at PG Live as the publisher has taken over the licence for Deadpan Cards – while co-owner Nick Padmore is keeping a suitably straight face.

Deadpan will now just be publishing cards under licence to Cath Tate Cards and will not be continuing as a separate publisher.

Explaining the attraction of the new deal, Nick told PG Buzz: “We’ve always thought of Cath Tate as one of our card buddies and, since they not only make hilarious cards but also take the whole running-a-business part seriously, we can’t think of a better match.

“It’s not on brand for us to be excited about things but, hey, we’ll make an exception just this once.”

Cath Tate, founder of the eponymous company, has been in the greeting card business for over 40 years, since she designed her first card lampooning then-prime minister Maggie Thatcher, and daughter Rosie deadpanned: “We like to consider ourselves at least mildly funny!

“We’re always on the lookout for new designers and artists to collaborate with, who share our sense of humour. We’ve been aware of Deadpan since spotting them at a trade show back in 2018. The dry humour, cynicism and general lack of enthusiasm in the cards really stood out to us as something original and different.”

The Deadpan range, now exclusively distributed by Cath Tate, will be showcased at PG Live, on 6-7 June at London’s Business Design Centre with a launch of 25 designs in a combination of birthday bestsellers, ages ranging from 18-80, and popular occasions.

The Deadpan tie-up is the latest in a series of collaborations Cath Tate Cards has forged with other brands and designers, including Veronica Dearly, Wotmalike, Hurrah For Gin, Jelly Armchair, and Max Made Me.
