Swanning around sees publisher showcase work across restaurant windows
Fay’s Studio founder Fay Martin has been swanning around her Staffordshire hometown with a large white chalk pen – but no one minded as the result is a glorious artwork over the windows of a local restaurant.
The Ask Italian chain recently ran a Christmas campaign to support local communities and artists across the nation to decorate their nearest outlet, and publisher and designer Fay took on the task in Lichfield, creating a detailed swan, hearts and foliage design.
“I designed the Christmas window not only to showcase the relevance of the swans in our local area,” Fay told PG Buzz, “but also finished my swan with a crown in commemoration of Queen Elizabeth II.”
Just launching her new Hooray gender-neutral birthday collection covering ages from one to 100, Fay usually develops cards from her original hand illustrations but visual merchandising and window designs are a secret passion – and she had her word installed at Harrods in London for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee back in 2012.
Fay added: “Working on a large scale in white chalk pen is quite different to designing greeting cards, but I love the freedom of expanding the scale of my freehand designs. I’d be very happy to design windows for anyone interested for their store!”
