The people chose Cardology!

Battersea Pop-Up range is The People’s Choice for Gift Of The Year

The power of the greeting card has triumphed, with the public’s votes seeing Cardology’s Battersea Pop-Up Cards beating 284 other products to win The People’s Choice award in The Gift Of The Year awards.

Announced yesterday evening, July 17, at Harrogate Home & Gift, Cardology’s 3D card collection, developed in licensing partnership with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, took the title having received the most votes from the general public of all the shortlisted products in the GOTY 2022 awards programme, owned and organised by The Giftware Association.

In only the second year of The People’s Choice award, Cardology received 500 of the 7,000 votes cast, more than any of the other products.

The full list of 2022 GOTY winners and highly-commended products, which was arrived at by a judging panel of retailers and industry experts, was announced in May at the very first UK Gift Awards event which brought together GOTY and The Greats gift retailer awards, the latter owned and organised by Max Publishing, publishers of Progressive Gifts & Home and Progressive Greetings magazines.

With the public’s votes having been counted, The People’s Choice was revealed yesterday with The GA’s ceo Sarah Ward presenting the trophy to Cardology’s co-founder David Falkner.

Sarah said: “The judges have had their say, but how have the consumers voted? This year, in particular, everyone looking for extra-special cards to tell their loved ones how much they mean to them.”

And in her speech yesterday she highlighted: “The retail landscape caused by the pandemic is one of constant shifts and changes. It has been almost impossible to some businesses to plan as they were used to pre-pandemic, as challenges with supply chain, the war in Ukraine, Brexit, and inflation roll on.

“What we do know is that consumers are more conscious now than they have ever been, they seek transparency and authenticity when being communicated to by brands, they seek quality brands who stand by their values, and they seek joy.

“The very worthy winner of this year’s People’s Choice Award delivers all of this and much more and their customers and champions clearly believe they deserve to be crowned as the final part of our Gift Of The Year Awards 2022.”

David told PG Buzz: “We’re absolutely delighted to win The People’s Choice award. Having built the brand and learned so much on the B2C front over the last few years, we are now full on growing Cardology’s presence in the general retail trade.”

The company’s licensing partnerships have been a “real game changer” for the business, David said. Having first been granted licences by Warner Bros, it then went on to sign with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home as well as Penguin for Peter Rabbit and The Snowman, and others are in the pipeline.

He added: “We love creating our generic designs but having the backing of licensed brands means we’ve been taken more seriously as a business – licensing definitely opens doors!”

Combining paper-engineering techniques and art, Cardology stretches the boundaries to create its impressive 3D cards. Each card is designed digitally, the pieces laser cut and then assembled by hand to build the pop-up card, often taking up to 45 minutes. Using plastic-free, reversible, zero-waste packaging is part of the company’s commitment to give the consumer and recipient the best possible experience.
