HoC’s Miles Robinson wins wager with Mark Janson-Smith over PM departure date
Greeting card publishers and retailers are always quick off the mark – and Thortful proved it with the release of bye bye Boris designs within hours of the Prime Minister’s resignation.
Meanwhile a wager between Postmark’s co-owner Mark Janson-Smith and House Of Cards’ co-owner Miles Robinson on the date of BoJo’s announcement saw a crisp £50 note being handed to Miles by Mark at The Retas Awards yesterday to settle the bet.
With the controversial politician stepping away from 10 Downing Street mid-morning yesterday, 7 July, online greetings platform Thortful was marketing a whole range of leaving cards on its site first thing today, backed up by PR activity.
Card designers, of course, had a bit of a heads-up following the number of Tory MPs who resigned throughout this week, and with calls for Johnson to resign growing over the past month as huge swathes of the UK public were outraged over recent happenings.
Thortful said the search trends from Keyword Tool showed searches for “Boris Johnson resign” had increased by more than 1,985%, and the now-former Prime Minister had found himself trending number one on Twitter.
And the news prompted the greeting card marketplace to create Boris Johnson farewell cards to cover a range of occasions, from those who are also leaving their jobs to happy birthday cards.
A spokesperson at Thortful said: “We’re proud to offer our customers a wide range of greeting cards, even the ones which are a bit cheeky!”
