Cardgains’ cardies raise £17.7k for Alzheimer’s Society

Triumphant charity challenge walkers near £22,000 target after 37 complete sunny trek

The Cardgains Charity Challengers have 17,677 reasons already for having circumnavigated Ullswater Lake on Thursday, 30 June, as their achievement has so far passed over 70% of the £22,000 target.

With an age range from 20s to 60s, the 37 walkers from the greetings industry, along with family and friends, completed the buying group’s tough Ultimate Ullswater – and the weather gods were in favour of raising money for Alzheimer’s Society, turning the forecast rain into a lovely sunny day, with more than a few gaining a tan!

“We had a fabulous day,” Cardgains marketing director Penny Shaw told PG Buzz. “There were all shapes and sizes and fitness levels – although the route circumnavigated Ullswater Lake, it was a challenging circuit, often climbing high up into the hills and down dale to lakeside.

“The views were astounding and, for any Lake District first timers, I know they forgave us for the climbs to see the beautiful countryside from above.

“As it was our 22nd event, in 2022, we have a target of £22,000 and we couldn’t have wished for a better relaunch of the Cardgains Charity Challenge after the recent Covid years.

“We’re currently at 71% of our fundraising target for Alzheimer’s Society – £17,667 – and are expecting to achieve that with post-walk donations.”

And everyone managed to limp to Cardgains member Celebrations in Carlisle for the post-walk party with the retailer kindly laying on a hearty pie main course followed by cheesecake.
