Newbie 3evils gives itself sporting chance

Publisher’s PG Live launch showcases best of British inclusivity ranges

As parents of sporty teens, the founders of new card company 3evils have set their sights on catering for traditionally underserved markets, and the publisher is launching its best of British design ranges at PG Live, with some extra incentives on offer for retailers to give the company a trial run.

Following a soft launch through agents in February this year, the new company is showcasing its full eight launch ranges at the show, which runs over next Tuesday and Wednesday, 7-8 June, at London’s Business Design Centre.

For PG Live 3evils – the name comes from the sentiment that we don’t live in a world where we speak, see and hear no evil – is offering anyone visiting its Stand 113 the chance to win a £100 Selfridges Gift Card, 30 3evils cards of the winner’s choice, and a magnum of Champagne, as well as a 10% discount on all orders taken at the show.

Ethical values are central to the 3evils brand with all cards printed in the UK on FSC-approved paper and supplied either naked or in biodegradable cellos. In addition, 5% of all profits go back to 3evils charitable partners which include conservation charities Ripple Africa and Heal Rewilding.

All four foundersDi and Robert Simpson, Rachel Bell and Jules Newton – have sporty teens at home and are conscious of the lack of cards available outside of the more traditional football and golfing designs, so the 3evils’ range has silhouettes of athletes from sports such as basketball, skateboarding, BMX and skiing.

Designer Di said: “Many friends have commented how hard it is to find cards depicting some of the newer and quickly-growing sports like climbing, skateboarding and martial arts. Kids are actively playing these sports and seeing them both on the streets of their home towns and at the Olympics, but that doesn’t seem to be translating into what was available to buy in store. Inclusivity is one of our core values so it feels great to design a range that appeals to a wider section of our kids.”

Aiming to deliver designs for men, teens, millennials, along with more diverse and LGBTQ+ audiences as well as more traditional mainstream animals and expression ranges, Rachel added: “We’ve been really pleased with the initial reception and feedback from customers and the support from others in the industry.

“We heard from early customers that PG Live was a great show and are excited to meet buyers, agents and other card companies in Islington next week. The show sounds great fun and we’re on a mission to help to spread more joy to friends, family and loved ones. So it seemed like a perfect match for us.”

Feedback from agents and customers has been extremely positive so far with the sports range being one of 3evils’ bestsellers – agent Abi Corboy said: “I’m a big fan of this range and it’s one of the reasons we took on 3evils. I don’t have anything like it in my bag currently so it brings something new and unique to my customers.”
